In her second surrogacy journey, Susan felt a deep-seated desire to assist a same-sex couple. As a staunch LGBTQ+ advocate and supporter, she felt this was an essential step in her journey. While she cherishes the experience of helping her first intended parent, she felt a pull towards assisting a same-sex couple in their quest for parenthood.
This journey was also marked by Susan’s firm decision to opt for a home birth, despite potential pressures from outsiders. As a home birth midwife with personal experiences of birthing her children at home, Susan chose to have a home birth for this surrogacy journey as well. Understanding the benefits and feeling safest in the comfort of her home, Susan chose this path, emphasizing the importance of a surrogate’s well-being and comfort.

In March 2016, Susan was introduced to intended fathers from Spain. Their connection was instantaneous. Both parties felt an immediate bond, and within days, they had their official match meeting. The journey was filled with shared moments, from private message threads filled with laughter to in-person meetings that felt like reunions of old friends.
Susan’s connection with the parents of the children she helped bring into the world is evident. Their bond remains strong, with Susan and her intended parents staying connected through social media and occasional texts. These interactions are filled with heartwarming anecdotes, from stories about the first days of school to the humorous things kids say.
